Sima Azadegan: Merging Business and Spirituality in Fashion

The worlds of business and spirituality have rarely intersected, often presenting more differences than similarities. Traditionally, launching a firm involves finding a compelling concept to address market needs, developing a robust strategy, and recruiting experienced leaders to maximize success. In contrast, “surrender” is a foundational principle in spiritual development, a concept not often championed by modern CEOs.
Against this backdrop, Sima Azadegan launched her clothing line at the age of fifty, despite having no prior experience in business or fashion. Within a year, her creations graced prestigious events such as New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, and the Forbes 30/50 International Women Summit. Her designs have been featured in leading fashion magazines like ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire, alongside more than ten European networks.
Sima’s journey exemplifies how self-reflection and unwavering faith can lead to success. Her 15-year quest for self-discovery has been pivotal in her transformation. Reflecting on her childhood, Sima felt constrained, unable to express herself fully. She began formal piano training at nine, entered college at seventeen, and married by twenty-one, dedicating much of her life to teaching and family.
At 36, she began a deep exploration of her identity, stating, “I undertook a fifteen-year exploration of my subconscious before, at the age of fifty, I discovered my voice and connected with the purpose I was born to fulfill.” From a young age, Sima knew the fashion industry was her true calling. “What to wear is something I can think of in a flash. It’s completely second nature to choose style, color, and fabric. It wasn’t until I was 50 years old that I discovered my true identity: I am a designer!”
Her clothing line, Sima Collezione, showcases bold gowns that celebrate a woman’s natural beauty, reflecting the epiphany that ignited her passion. “Dream, passion, and spirit led me to launch my firm; I was born to be a fashion designer,” Sima explains, noting how, in just one month, she conceptualized fifty unique evening gown designs without any formal training.
Sima believes that her higher awareness guided her creative process, stating, “It is from the depths of my spirit that my business has been born.” Each garment embodies themes of love, hope, faith, and compassion. Sima aims to spark a revolution in the fashion industry by seamlessly blending form and function. “My clothing brand has restored grace, sophistication, and honesty, which I believe no haute couture house has successfully achieved.”
For Sima, customers are like family, integral to the Sima Collezione tribe. “They can spread my movement and inspiration of light, beauty, elegance, positivity, and unity worldwide,” she emphasizes, prioritizing their well-being.
As a strong advocate for women, Sima encourages them to recognize their inner light and beauty, resisting the pressures of harmful cultural norms. “A strong woman knows exactly what she wants out of life and remains unwavering in her pursuit,” she asserts, highlighting the importance of self-belief, especially amidst challenges.
Reflecting on her decision to pursue her passion during the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sima faced significant pushback from friends and family. Nevertheless, she chose to trust her instincts, evolving into a transformative leader and an inspiration for women in fashion and beyond.
“My goal as an entrepreneur who followed her heart at 50 is to encourage and inspire other women to do the same,” she declares. Sima’s journey underscores that pursuing dreams is far from cliché; it’s a powerful choice. In just two years, she established a renowned fashion house without any formal qualifications in the field. “Trusting my gut and following my heart were key to my success,” she reflects, hoping her experience inspires other women leaders.
Despite realizing her purpose later in life, Sima wouldn’t change her path. “Everything I did—from planning to execution—benefited me and propelled me forward,” she states, firmly believing that “all things happen for a reason,” allowing her to learn and grow.
Sima understands the importance of daily routines in shaping one’s destiny. Each morning, she prepares coffee and meditates in her garden, reflecting on her journey and envisioning future fashion shows. Decision-making occurs primarily at her desk on Mondays and Wednesdays, while family takes priority on other days.
Balancing business and personal life poses challenges for any entrepreneur. “It’s the balance and having your family beside you that makes success sweet and meaningful,” she affirms.
In just two years, Sima Azadegan has achieved what many consider unimaginable. Her presence in prominent fashion journals and global events showcases her success. “The light of my purpose is alive and well,” she asserts, committed to continuing her movement.
“I promised my husband two years ago that in five years, I would be the most famous fashionista in the world. It took only two years, which is quite surprising,” she notes, confident in the bright future of Sima Collezione. As she moves forward, Sima remains resolute in her mission to restore balance, harmony, optimism, creativity, integrity, and elegance to the world through fashion and beyond
